After having created an account on a gambling site and made a deposit to your account, you will find yourself in front of an online roulette table for the first time. These online roulette tables may have some minor variations, but in general they are all gonna look pretty much the same. You have the roulette wheel, and then you have the roulette table or the betting board.

The roulette wheel of a standard European roulette game contains 37 numbers. Each of these numbers are colored in either red or black, with the exception of the number zero which is colored in green. We will talk more about the green zero in a moment.

Moving on, you see the roulette table or the betting board. This contains all the same numbers that you find on the roulette wheel. The betting board is used to place your wagers. You place a wager by choosing how much you want to bet and placing the corresponding amount of chips on the betting board.

Now that you have seen the roulette table, it’s time to talk about what kind of bets you can place. There are many different bets available. Some are harder, while others are easier to make. The harder the bet, the higher the payout will be.

The easiest type of bet to succeed with is the so-called even money bet. This includes bets like red/black or odd/even. All of these bets have a 50/50 percent chance of success or failure, and hence the payout ratio is 2:1.

When we say the even money bets have 50/50 chance of success, it’s actually not quite true. Remember that green field we talked about earlier? That’s a bit of a joker. If the ball lands on the green field, your bet will be lost. So there is a slight advantage in favor of the house. This is how the casino makes money in the long run. The actual chance of success is 48.70% on even money bets.

We will now look at the different kinds of wagers that can be placed, as well as their success ratio and payout.

The first type of wager you can place is whether the ball will fall on a red or a black slot on the roulette wheel. This type of bet disregards what number the ball will land on. The number is not important when you have placed this type of wager.

If you place your money on black, then you want the money to land on a black field. If the ball lands on red or green, your stake will be lost. If the ball lands on black, you will double your wager. It’s pretty simple really.

The next type of bet you can make is the even/odd bet. This carries the same odds at the red/black wager. With this wager, you will bet on the result of the roulette to be an even or an odd number. The color of the field that the ball lands on is not important.

High/Low is the last kind of even money bet you can place when playing online roulette. With this wager, you’re betting that the ball will land either on one of the low numbers (1-18) or one of the high numbers (19-36) in order to be successful. For example, if you have bet on low numbers, then you want the roulette ball to land within the range of 1-18. Bear in mind that if the ball lands on zero, your stake will be lost.

Moving on, we will now look at a wager which is a little bit harder to be successful with. The dozen wager let’s you bet on only 12 out of the 36 numbers on the roulette wheel. As such, the chance of success is about one third. You can bet on 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36.

Chance of success: 32.40%

Payout: 2:1

The column wager has the same probability of success at the above-mentioned dozen wager. You are wagering on a total of 12 different numbers. In this case, you are wagering on the numbers within the columns going from left to right on the betting board as seen on the image above.

Example: the numbers 1,4,7,10,13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34. If you wager on this column, and the ball lands on one of those numbers, it’s a win.
